Look Up

“Look UP!” was born completely by accident. I was at Snowbowl in northern Arizona on a crisp fall day, goofing around and tossing handfuls of leaves with friends while trying to catch photos of them drifting through the air. We were laughing, not taking anything too seriously, when I suddenly glanced straight up — and everything changed. Above me was a glowing canopy of gold and fiery red aspens framed by a brilliant alpine sky. It stopped me in my tracks.
I dropped right onto the forest floor, pointed the camera upward, and the scene came alive in a way I hadn’t expected. From that perspective, the aspens formed a radiant mosaic that felt almost like a natural cathedral ceiling. Snowbowl, known mostly for its skiing, becomes a wonderland of color in autumn, but looking up from the ground revealed a view most people never think to look for.
What started as a playful moment became my most popular photograph to date — a reminder that some of the best images come when you slow down, embrace the moment, and simply look up.
