While heading north on the highway toward Pine, a sudden break in the thick clouds stopped me in my tracks. The sun burst through the opening with such intensity that it lit up the sky like a theatrical spotlight. Captured just south of Payson in the rugged Mazatzal Wilderness, this image—fittingly titled Spooky Eyes—evokes the surreal impression of a ghostly face staring out from the heavens. A spontaneous moment, eerie and beautiful all at once.
